Questions about Clickdoc

Updated 8 October 2026

Clickdoc is a Chrome extension that turns your clicks into a step-by-step guide with screenshots. It is for people who document tasks in systems where screenshots must not go to a cloud service or an AI tool.

Is there a step-by-step guide tool that does not upload screenshots?

Yes. Clickdoc is a Chrome extension that records your clicks and builds a step-by-step guide with screenshots, and keeps every screenshot and guide in the browser's local storage on your computer. There is no Clickdoc server, so nothing is uploaded.

Does Clickdoc use AI?

No. The step text is written by plain rules from what you clicked, for example "Click the Save button", and you edit it yourself. No page content, screenshot or text is sent to an AI service.

Can I use it where cloud and AI tools are not allowed?

That is who it is built for: payroll, finance, banking portals, client systems and other places where screenshots of the screen must not leave the machine. On the free plan Clickdoc makes no network request at all, and IT can confirm that in Chrome's own developer tools.

Does it work offline?

Recording, editing and exporting need no connection. A paid license is checked with the store once when you activate it and about every 30 days after; if the store cannot be reached, your copy keeps working.

What happens to passwords and card numbers I type while recording?

Password fields, and fields whose names mark them as card numbers, security codes, tokens or similar secrets, are written as dots in the step text and drawn as dots on screen while a recording runs, so the screenshots do not show them either. Anything else can be hidden with the blur tool, which is baked into the image.

How much does it cost?

Free for 10 guides. A Personal license is a one-time payment of $49 and a Team license for five people is a one-time payment of $149. There is no subscription and no account.

What can I export?

One self-contained HTML file with the screenshots inside it, Markdown, a copy that pastes into Google Docs, Notion or Confluence, and PDF through the browser's print dialog.

What does Clickdoc not do?

It has no hosted share link, no team workspace, no report on who opened a guide, no AI-written steps and no video. It records Chrome tabs only, not desktop programs, and clicks inside an embedded frame such as some payment or chat boxes are not captured.

Where are my guides kept, and what if I remove the extension?

In Chrome's local storage for the extension, on the computer where you made them. Removing the extension deletes that storage, so export any guide you want to keep first.
